Franklin, KY is not the biggest place in the country, or even in the state, but that doesn’t mean we don’t have some amazing places for delicious homemade ice cream. When you want a special treat, visit one of these spots that are our favorites for frozen desserts.

Frosty Freeze

You’ll find the Frosty Freeze at 433 Main St, and this is a truly beloved local spot. You know this by the fact that they open up at 9 AM every day except Sunday, when they’re closed. That’s way earlier than most people are interested in having dessert, but this place is just that good. They close at 10 PM every night.

In addition to dessert, they also do old-fashioned burgers and fries, and their shakes are like what your grandparents and great-grandparents had in the soda shops. Go old school and get a banana split or a malt: you can’t go wrong. This isn’t a place where you’re going to get tons of toppings because it’s meant to be nostalgic. Think 1950s soda shop and you’ll be on the right track.

Kelly Korn and Kandy Shop

At 109 W Cedar St, this spot opens up from 10 AM to 7 PM from Tuesday through Saturday. They are closed on Sundays and Mondays. This is an old fashion candy shop, but they also have delicious frozen desserts, which you can get in single or double scoops on cones, waffle cones, or in cups. They have a wide variety of flavors, so be sure to stop in if you’re in the area.

Rita’s Italian Ice and Frozen Custard

If you’re up for a little trip in your Ford Explorer, head north to 1840 Christian Car Way Suite C in Bowling Green for some creamy custard and delicious ices. They’re open from noon until 9 pm from Sunday through Thursday and stay open until 10 pm on Friday and Saturday. They have a variety of ices, gelato, and “gelati,” which are combos of gelato on top of Italian ice.

Their Italian ices are made fresh every and use only real fruit. Flavors change regularly, but you can usually count on strawberry, blue raspberry, orange, and banana at least. Their cream ice is a weird but delicious combination, and we are pretty partial to the marshmallow peanut butter. The custard is thick and rich, and the chocolate salted caramel custard is not to be missed if they have it on offer. They also do great concretes.

There’s nothing like a frozen dessert when you really want to indulge. And if you want an indulgent experience for your Ford, bring it to Hunt Ford for the finest and most careful service in the state.
