Located just a few miles north of the Tennessee state line, the city of Franklin, KY is close to both large cities and beautiful nature reserves where you can spend a day exploring with your family or a group of friends. 1. Nashville

Home to a population of almost 700,000 inhabitants in its metropolitan area, the city of Nashville is the capital of the state of Tennessee and one of the largest urban areas in the southeastern United States. Mammoth Cave National Park is located a little under 50 miles northeast of downtown Franklin, making it possible to reach it in just 45 minutes by car. Some of the spots you should check out include the travertine stalactites and stalagmites inside the cave, the semi-subterranean waterways of River Styx, as well as the different hiking trails that crisscross the park.

3. Lake Malone State Park

Spanning an area of about 340 acres, Lake Malone State Park is a beautiful nature reserve that offers excellent opportunities for swimming, boating, picnicking, camping, and fishing. Established in 1962, this place is one of the most popular day trip destinations among Franklin residents. Located about 45 miles northwest of the city center, this nature reserve can be reached in less than an hour by car along routes KY-100 and US-431.
