Located on the southwestern tip of Kentucky, the small city of Franklin, KY, sits right along the Tennessee state line and is a great place to stay while exploring the region’s natural attractions. If you are thinking of taking your family on a scenic drive in your new 2022 Ford Edge Titanium and are searching for nearby natural landmarks to explore, here are three wonderful state parks you should check out.

1. Nolin Lake State Park

A forested lakeside reserve featuring large campgrounds, fishing piers, boat ramps, and a playground, Nolin Lake State Park is a magnet for nature lovers, wildlife watchers, and anyone wanting to take a break from the city routine. Located at 2998 Brier Creek Road near the town of Mammoth Cave, this state park can be reached in about one hour and 10 minutes by car from downtown Franklin.

Nolin Lake State Park encompasses an area of nearly 350 acres and is a well-known hiking destination year-round. During the winter months, this place features a series of impressive frozen waterfalls, while a swimming beach is the main attraction throughout the summer. This place has been a well-known escape among visitors from both Kentucky and Tennessee for over five decades.

2. Bledsoe Creek State Park

Covering an area of about 165 miles in what was once a Native American hunting ground, Bledsoe Creek State Park is a popular nature reserve featuring a lake, several campsites, and over six miles of beautiful nature trails. This state park is located at 400 Zieglers Fort Road near the town of Gallatin and about 30 miles southeast of downtown Franklin.

Managed by the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation, Bledsoe Creek State Park was largely developed by the Civilian Conservation Corps. It opened its doors to the public in 1973 and has since been a popular spot for boaters, hikers, and wildlife watchers. This nature reserve provides habitat to large populations of wild turkeys, whitetail deer, bobcats, fox, and bald eagles.

3. Standing Stone State Park

Featuring woods, meadows, streams, and a sprawling lake, Standing Stone State Park is located at 1674 Standing Stone Park Highway near the town of Hilham and about 80 miles east of Franklin. Developed during the 1930s, this place encompasses an area of about 850 acres and is one of the most scenic places for a day trip in the region.
